IXYS -The HiperFRED-technology has been developed with respect to achieve a rectifier perfectly suited for the needs of many applications.

Application-optimised designs allow the engineer to use the most suitable diode for their circuits. With Ixys expanding with a second generation of HiperFRED diodes improved in switching performance and thermal behaviour. This allows higher integrated and compact designs, space-saving constructions and higher system efficiency.

Ixys are now offering a new generation of Schottky Rectifiers with a wide range of breakdown voltages from 8V to 200V- applications optimised designs and an improved thermal behaviour are the advantages of these new Schottky barrier diodes.

The Schottky has three design variants giving engineers the choice to optimise every low voltage application from O-ring to Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS). Design "D" -suited for breakdown voltages (Vrrm) below 15V- offers an extremely low voltage drop (VF) which is the best in class.

Beginning with a Vrrm of 15V the "B"-type dominate the applications. A very low VF combined with an improved reverse current allows small conduction losses.

Between a Vrrm of 45V to 80V the customer can select between a "B" and an "A" type.

The "A" - Version shows extremely low leakage current and is optimal for high temperature applications e.g. in automotive designs with the increase of system voltages the "A" -types with their high performance are the one and only solution to realise high stability and reliability.

The sonic-technology has been developed to achieve a rectifier perfectly suited for the different needs of switching applications. The result is a diode with a very soft recovery behaviour, snappiness is reduced to a minimum although there is an extremely high di/dt capability. The switching time trr and with it the losses are minimised because of a very small tail current. Ixys has expanded its new family of 3-Phase and half-Bridge Drivers optimised for gate drive applications up to 650V. This family provides a complete spectrum of solutions with 0.6A peak to 6.0A peak output drive current capability for applications ranging from 1kHz to 1MHz. These give better matching of propagation delays, enhanced fault tolerance and reliability, with improved efficiency and cooler operation and provide compatibility with similar Drivers from other suppliers. Performance advantages include 50kV/uS dV/dt noise immunity and 200V negative voltage transient immunity and lower power dissipation. Noise immunity is further enchanced by the use of non-latching level translation.

Lower dissipation means IXYS Drivers can be pushed to higher temperatures with greater reliability. This Family of Drivers offer a wide mix of user options for input logic options, output current ratings and packages. Other user options covered by this family include fixed and programmable delays, shutdown options, protection features, as well as high and low side under voltage. Performance advantages include extended voltage range operation, and extended temperature operations from -55 to +125 degrees.

Westcode Semiconductors (An IXYS company), for whom GD Rectifiers are the UK franchised distributor are annoucing a new addition to its range of Extra Fast Recovery Diodes. Manufactured using Westcode's advanced processing and "Life-time" control techniques, the diodes characteristics have been optimised to give a fast but soft recovery. With maximum operating temperature of 150 degrees, the new diode has a current rating of 240A and is encapsulated in a fully hermetic 25mm diameter pole face, pressure contact package.

The F0240YH250 & F0240YH300 diodes, rated at 2500V and 3000V respectively, are encapsulated in industry standard 26mm thick package. The 2500V device is also available in a low profile 15mm thick package F0240YH250, giving the option of a lighter more compact system. The diodes offer robust characteristics with high SOA and are suitable for snubberless operation.

These diodes are suited to all applications, in this voltage class, which require fast switching characteristics and low recovery losses. They are particularly suited for use in applications with IGBT's, GTO Thyristors and other GTO Thyristors related devices where their optimised characteristics are a perfect match for use as clamp or snubber diodes, the 3kV device is ideal for 1.5kV DC Traction applications. The high di/dt capability and robust construction also make the diodes well suited to applications in pulsed power such as laser power supplies and pulse modulator circuits.

GD Rectifiers are pleased to annouce that IXYS are keeping up with ambitious growth plans in the IGBT market. As a Leader in Direct Copper Bond (DCB) module packaging technology, this new family of DCB based IGBT modules are housed in the industry standard low profile "Econo-style" module. The current ranges from 10 to 60 Amps depending on configuration and voltage ratings.

IXYS has now made available in volume production both 6 Pack and Converter-Brake-Inverter (CBI) configurations in the Econo-style module utilising both low loss NPT3 and trench IGBT technologies. 6 Pack versions of these IGBT modules include the MWI15 and MWI60 rated at 1200V with current capabilities varying from 19-58 Amps at 25 degrees. The CBI versions include the MUBW10 and MUBW35 offered at 600V with current ratings of 12-42 Amps at 25 degrees and the MUBW15 and MUBW30 with current ratings of 19-30 Amps at 25 degrees rated at 1200V

Typical applications for this product include AC drives, UPS, AC servo and robotics drives. All Modules are UL approved.

Westcode are offering Isolated Base Water Cooled Power Module, which Voltage grades from 1200V to 2200V, Current ratings from 600A to 950A. Direct cooling of the base minimises the thermal path to die offering optimised power performance and a compact volume efficient design. The improved thermal resisitance of this product gives enhanced electrical characteristics when compared to equivalent IXYS product without direct water-cooling. Savings in both weight and cost are envisaged over designs using dicrete devices with separate coolers. Manufactured by using pressure contact construction, the package is based on industry standard outlines and terminations are compatible with standard isolated base products.

This new family of Power MOSFETs utilizes IXYS indusrty Recognized HiPerFet process to create a fast intrinsic body diode and enhanced dv/dt ruggedness, targeted at hard switching inverter and power supply applications. This technology dramatically enchance the power handling capability and system efficiency for a broad range of high power applications. These design and process changes provide "best-in-class" on resistance, gate charge and thermal impedance to enable increased power handling using IXYS Power MOSFETs.

The performance improvements offered by IXYS PolarHT Power MOSFETs improve their cost effectiveness in a range of applications for the consumer, industrial and automotive markets. These high voltage NPT IGBT discretes enable the elimination of more costly, lower performance solutions such as thyristors or series connected MOSFETs or IGBTs typically used at voltages above 1200V. Offered as Copacks, they offer a more complete solution for power conversions applications to improve efficiency and reliability due to reduce voltage drop, lower switching losses and the need for fewer components for PWM applications with switching frequencies up to 50kHz.

Enhancing the efficiency and noise performance of these Copacks and Phase Legs is the selection of IXYS 1800V SONIC-FRD ultrasoft, fast recovery diodes as the integrated diode. These are designed for temperature stability with low forward voltage and ultra-low, ultra-soft reverse recovery characteristics. In addition, IXYS SOINC-FRD diodes are optimized to provide excellent dynamic avalanche ruggedness. The devices incorporate highly interdigitated gates structures to allow turn-on into extremely high di/dt from high DC link voltages and are primarily aimed at pulse power applications.

The Y2002KC250 and Y5002NC250 are both symmetrical blocking devices. All parts are optimised to minimise turn-on delay times and are suitable for series connection with suitable sharing components.

Typical applications for these parts include pulse laser suppliers, X-ray generators, purification / sterilisation, metal forming, non-destructive testing, magnetisers and particle accelerators as well as defence applications.In many applications these parts will replace traditional Thyraton and ignition technologies and offer the benefits of reduces standby power and zero toxic materials.

The new diode has a maximum voltage rating of 5.6kV and a RMS current rating of nearly 10,000 amperes. The diodes are manufactured on single 87mm diameter silicon die and are available in two industry standard outlines. The devices are encapsulated in a fully hermetic, 75mm pole face, pressure contact package with two available height options: W5292TC560 with a 26mm package height and W5292TD560 with a 35mm package height.

The robust high reliability construction of these devises and the option for enhanced rupture capability, make these devices well suited to the rigours of such demanding applications as chemical industry power supplies or track-side equipment for rail systems. Manufactured on a single 100mm diameter silicon wafer, the new 5.2kV devices incorporates specially designed distribution gate architecture for improving turn-on characteristics and di/dt capability along with addition processing to reduce tq and recovery time.

The additional processing used in the medium voltage Thyristor gives a more predictable dynamic characteristic than a conventional phase control device, with a more favourable trade off between the static and dynamic characteristics. The Thyristor has RMS current rating of 6900A and is encapsulated in a fully hermetic 100mm diameter pole face, pressure contact package.

The K3503FC450 & K3503FC520 Thyristors, rated at 4500V and 5200V respectively, are encapsulated in industry standard 35mm thick packages.
